In 1999, Glen Hyland, M.D, Mayo Clinic trained oncologist, presented a series of 100 cancer patients to whose diets glyconutrients, phytochemicals, and phytogenins were added to the diet during and after their therapy. It was reported that: first of all, patient therapy was not neutralized or cancelled. Second, destruction of cancer cells was enhanced. Third, normal cells were protected. Fourth, Malignancies noted for a lack of response to any therapy shrunk significantly. And fifth, the quality of life for the patient during treatment was improved. For this presentation, the doctor received scorn and contempt from other oncologists. An abstract of Dr. Hyland’s observations is attached to the narrative.

In 2000, at the same conference, the syllabus author was invited to present basic science potential mechanisms of anticancer action and additional impact cases in more detail. He was also to try and explain a basis for Dr. Hyland’s report that was so poorly received. The syllabus contains photomicrographs of biopsies, serial scans and X rays that document survival of over 10 years since patients were at a hospice level in the 1980’s, who have survived despite failure to respond to standard treatment, but who responded when micronutrients were added to their diet. Published data is shown which provides a scientific rationale for why the function of innate defense of the body to be boosted to a level where cancer cells are attacked and destroyed by white cells. The series is completed by reports on pancreatic cancer patients and sarcomas that have responded to the combination of standard therapy and improved nutrition.
